“I am 52 years old and crashed on my bicycle last Thanksgiving, which required surgery to repair my shoulder, rotator cuff, and bicep tendon. I began my physical therapy with Melissa Tighe at Excel in February and finished this summer.
I was extremely happy with the program, my recovery, and the personal care I received throughout the process. I would personally recommend Melissa Tighe to anyone in need of physical therapy. Melissa not only ran me through the standard exercises but also taught me how to do them properly so I could learn how to target the correct muscles. She listened to my goals, helped me restore motion and strength in my arm to get me back to the activities I enjoyed before.
A couple of times, I got the opportunity to watch Melissa working with other patients, I could see that she had adjusted her style for each individual, helping to motivate and move them along at their own pace and ability. Melissa was able to make it fun and challenging for me through the process. This motivation helped maximize the impact of each session.
For anyone familiar with the road to recovery, it can have its ups and downs. I went from being pretty much unable to put on a shirt to almost complete recovery. The entire time, I felt like Melissa had my back. For example, due to a mix-up at the doctor’s office, my initial PT script was not accurate. Melissa immediately contacted their office and straightened out my scripts and the recovery program. Fortunately, I was working with her, because she quickly reacted and resolved a potential issue with my program. She truly cared for me as a patient.
Melissa and the team at Excel also worked well together. The couple of times I worked with other therapists, Melissa made sure they were all in sync with my status and I felt like I was able to continue to make progress, as well as learn something from each of them. Excel also worked with my insurance to navigate getting additional therapy sessions approved so I could reach my recovery goals. The team there made it easy and enjoyable.
The recovery process is hard enough, add in covid 19, a mix-up with my initial script, and having my arm almost completely immobilized for 6 weeks, it is critical to have great physical therapy to complete the process. When I completed my therapy, I had almost 100% motion in my arm and Melissa left me with the knowledge of how to continue stretching and building strength on my own. I can honestly say, the overall experience was an amazing journey, very personalized, and actually a lot of fun!”
