Joe Ruhl is President and co-owner of Excel Physical Therapy and Fitness and currently treats at the center city location.
Joe graduated from Juniata College in 1984. He went to Thomas Jefferson University College of Allied Health Sciences for Physical Therapy and graduated Cum Laude in 1986. In 1987, Joe became a Certified Athletic Trainer. His first job was as a staff therapist at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. In 1988, he became the first physical therapist at the newly developed Jefferson Sports Medicine Center. In 1991, Joe and Jeff joined forces in partnership and today Excel has eight clinics throughout the Delaware Valley.
Joe has always had a strong interest in Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy. As a PT/ ATC, he had experience treating acute athletic and general orthopedic injuries. He had the privilege of working with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1996 to 1999, holding the position of game day assistant to the training staff. He is currently certified in Functional Movement Screening (FMS) and is Direct Access certified, allowing him to legally treat patients without a physician’s prescription.
Joe was married in 1988 to his wife, Aimee. Together, they have 2 children, Lauren, born in 1992, and Joe III, born in 1995. In addition to keeping busy with his two children, Joe fully enjoys the game of golf.
